Case: Describe a time when a lesson was not going well. What did you do about it?
If you are asked this question in a job interview for a teaching position: What are some things you should avoid when responding to this question? What might be some important points to stress that would get the interviewer's attention? How would you respond to this question?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
It is important to stress how you reflected upon the lesson that did not go as planned and what you did to change the lesson outcome. For example, you taught a lesson that was not engaging for your students although you thought that I would grasp their attention quickly. During the interview you should be honest and state that the lesson did not work. What is important is that you found a way to change it and engage the students. Also, informing the interviewer of several strategies that can be implemented in case a lesson does not go as planned shows that you are prepared. |

Comments: If I were in this situation, I would do exactly this because being able to show the interviewer that you are able to reflect upon your mistakes and make adjustments for next time takes a big person who is also organized. |

Comments: I agree with this solution. Love the idea of stating strategies to the interviewer to show that you, the teacher, can be prepared for anything. |
