  Case: Too nervous to work
I have a student who get very nervous while working on his assignments. He starts day dreaming and when told to concentrate and do his work he fumbles with his pencil and second guesses himself often. I feel like he is afraid to be wrong and gets nervous because of it. How can I help him relax and trust himself?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I have a student who struggles with anxiety. I try to reassure her that she is in a safe environment.

Comments: I did not find this to be very helpful. If the student getting nervous because of fear of answering questions wrong I think the student needs more than just reassurence of a safe enviornment.

Comments: If I were in this situation, I would not use this solution because it is a very cold response, and ESOL students need more support than that.

Comments: That may not be the issue with the student. The student may need to feel relaxed and welcomed and accepted

Comments: This solution may work, but it won't work with every ESOL/ESE/ESL/ETC. student. Anxiety is a common thing but everyone takes it differently. If you come up to her every day to reassure her she may feel like she's getting "picked on" because you're going to her every day.

Comments: I think that this isn't the most effective way because although it is a good thing, I also think other ways of encouragement need to be emphasized.

Comments: It is important for the student to feel comfortable and know that they are safe, but just telling the student that doesn't really change their thinking, they need other forms of reassurance than just words, especially if the student has a hard time understanding English.
