  Case: Stolen pencil case
After socially integrating her diverse class, Carol sees her efforts threatened when a student's pencil case disappears and is thought to have been stolen.
What would you do to fix the situation?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would give a reward for the recovery of the pencil case. No questions asked, just a recovery.

The suggested solution is respectful of the individual (student) No
The suggested solution is relevant to the case No
The suggested solution is reasonable (easy) for the teacher to implement No
The suggested solution is likely to solve the problem/issue No
The suggested solution is original No
Comments: I do not agree with this solution because even though a reward may make students work harder to find it, if a student actually did take the pencil case this would also be seen as a reward to them. The pencil case would be returned but the student responsible wouldn't feel any sense of responsibility in the first place because he's being rewarded.

Comments: If I were in this situation, I would never use this as the solution. This is because this can show kids that the possibility of stealing is okay because they will get rewarded when they turn it in. This is the wrong way to go about this situation. A lecture needs to be given about touching other people's things and how we do not steal.

Comments: I do not like this solution. I feel that the students need to learn that taking something without permission is bad and will have consequences.

Comments: I do not think that this is the best solution because if a student stole it, they will be rewarded, "no questions asked." If anything, I think this would enable them to do it again for another "reward."

Comments: I do not agree with giving a reward for the case, while the recovery is important the person who took it could be getting rewarded. There is not a lesson or a consequence for doing something wrong.

Comments: A reward shouldn't be given. This is essentially telling students that stealing is okay because it will be rewarded. Punishment for stealing is necessary.

Comments: Incentives can work but I don't believe that it will help with the problem of stealing.
