  Case: Very Outspoken
While discussing different cultures and their norms, I had a student who got very offensive when the Muslim culture came up to discuss. I tried to control the situation and keep it civilized and not meant to attack any other races. This particular student got in a very heated discussion with another and stormed out. What should I do in the future to avoid a situation like this one?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would diffuse the situation by stating that personal beliefs are not a topic of discussion.

The suggested solution is respectful of the individual (student) No
The suggested solution is relevant to the case No
The suggested solution is reasonable (easy) for the teacher to implement No
The suggested solution is likely to solve the problem/issue No
The suggested solution is original No
Comments: I would never do this! This is wrong! Students need to be able to express themselves. They may not be aware that their beliefs may be offensive to others. Communication can bring people together.

Comments: If I were in this situation, I would not use this solution. This is because every student should be aloud to their own opinion, so telling a class that their personal beliefs are not welcome is not a good place to start. This will cause the students to shut down, not participate, and may even cause them to be more judgmental of other's beliefs.

Comments: I don't think this would diffuse the situation. Even if a student is not stating their personal belief out loud, they have beliefs, and thus will sometimes get upset about things. It seems better for them to find a way to communicate their beliefs appropriately so we can talk about them.

Comments: I don't agree with this solution because a discussion is about personal belief.
