  Case: Computer, I-Pad issues
John has severe ASD. He is only interested with working at the computer station or on the I-pad. He becomes increasingly disruptive when he has to attend to different classwork. What is a suitable strategy to modify his behavior?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would start with a meeting with the student and his family, to find out: a) What his interests are and b) What his IEP goals are. It is important to implement a curriculum that will best meet the student's needs, and he is likely behaving this way because he dislikes, or has not interest in the current curriculum.

Comments: Ye, I agree, Keeping the student's IEP goals in mind is necessary. Having the student not use a computer for class work may be one of them.

Comments: I think it is great that you mentioned the student's IEP. This should be a tool used often to decipher the best way to go about things with students!

Comments: It is important for the teacher to set up a meeting with the teacher to find out John's interest to see if there is another way for him to learn. I also liked seeing if he had an IEP and if so what the goals are to help the teacher achieve them. I agree one-hundred percent that it is important to implement the curriculum that will best meet the student's needs.

Comments: This is a great idea. I have seen this issue in classes before and believe the iPad and computer needs to be used as a reward.
