Case: Two boys who tend to derail the class, any ideas?
I'll be teaching 3rd grade this year and have at lest 2 boys who tend to derail the class and be challenging. Do you have any out-of-the-box ideas on how to connect with them and manage their behavior before it begins? and to keep it consistently managed?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Have the students keep a chart to self-monitor their behavior. If they have unacceptable behavior, then have them mark it on their chart and write a short sentence about what they did wrong and how they will change their behavior. For good behavior, I would have them mark their chart and they would not have to write anything. At the end of the week, if their behaviors averages out at about 85% toward the good behavior then they will receive an incentive.

The suggested solution is respectful of the individual (student) No
The suggested solution is relevant to the case No
The suggested solution is reasonable (easy) for the teacher to implement No
The suggested solution is likely to solve the problem/issue No
The suggested solution is original No
Comments: This is really good, but I think you would have to make it so the whole class has to do this because it will be so public. Then I don't think it would be as special to the students you are trying to help.

Comments: I like that they are personally responsible for keeping track of their behaviors and writing about it can help them sort out their motivations. I would also like them to write down their positive behaviors to reinforce that.

Comments: If the two boys are having enough behavioral problems to derail the class having them self monitor will not be sufficient. At this point the solution needs to be more hands on from the teacher, such as separating the students.
