Case: Math Swap
Kasey recently had four of her students randomly switched to a relief class. One of the switched students' parents contacted Kasey explaining that she is not happy with the switch. The parent explains that she believes the switch will disrupt the momentum the student has worked hard to build. Kasey Forwards the email to her grade level AP who tells Kasey to respond that the switch was random and the new teacher would be working closely with all previous teachers to meet the needs of all students. The parent responds that she is not happy with the explanation and would like her student switched back. What should be done to appease the parent without being unfair to other requests that were denied?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I think Kasey should not allow the switch to take place, as clearly that student is one who takes a while to adjust to a learning environment, and I think that Kasey is the best person to instruct that child. It may not make the other teacher happy, but she was not as familiar with that student anyhow, and it makes the student and the parents of the student happiest.
People should not be moved at random, especially not after a school year has already started. That is unfair to everyone. |

Comments: While the parent may not be happy, it is up to the administration to make the final decision. |

Comments: I do not agree with this, sometimes situations are out of control of the teachers hands, this being one of them. Kasey cannot say who goes and who does not, the teacher is qualified and the student will adjust in time. |

Comments: This is a good idea, but the staff obviously had some reasoning for the switch and doesn't seem to be giving her any helpful ideas other than simply explaining the unfortunate situation to the parent. Switching back may not be so simple or even doable. |

Comments: Kasey probably had no idea that the switch was happening in the first place and has no control on where the students go. The school could have told the parents that the switch was happening and should have given an option for parents so that the child can stay in their old classroom. |
