  Case: Homework Help
A girl in the class I am observing never does her homework. When asked about this, she says it's because no one is there to help her in the home. What can be done about this from an intern's perspective?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Give her opportunities to complete homework during the school day. She may not have parents available to help her after school. She may also simply need to build her self confidence. Some students do not attempt to figure things out on their own because they are too dependent on the teacher or another adult. Perhaps some instruction in problem solving and strategic thinking could help.

Comments: If I were in this situation, I would not use this solution. This is because I do not feel that the student should be allotted extra time during the school day to complete his/her work because it will take away the learning time from that individual. For example, during math time, the teacher lets the student who is falling behind complete last night's assignment to catch up, but because of this he/she is now missing on today's lesson. It would be a never ending battle of playing catch-up for the student.

Comments: I feel this is a really god idea that could eventually lead her to being able to do work on her own.

Comments: I agree, giving the student an opportunity to complete their homework and receive homework help during the school day is a great idea. This strategy will ensure the student has the help they need and will help them build the confidence and skills necessary to complete homework independently in the future.
