  Case: Stealing in Kindergarten
I have a student who steals. She went into another students backpack and took her lunch money. It is appropriate to tell the student that if she steals when she grows up that she will go to jail?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Their is no problem informing the student how their behavior can affect them in the future.
It is part of the job as a teacher. This confrontation should be done discreetly such as after class or in another room.
What should be done next is to inform the guidance counselor, school psychologist, administration, and the parents.

Comments: I think this approach is a bit quick and harsh on the student, in particular notifying multiple sects of the school before handing it another way.

Comments: I agree, it is best to let the child know their behavior is not appreciated and will not be tolerated.

Comments: While I support letting the child know that this is wrong, assuming this behavior will lead to jail is not teacher duty, it is a parental duty. This behavior is not academically related but is more of a social-emotional behavior.
