  Case: Teacher's pet
there was one student in my class that was a serious teacher's pet. He was always so nice and respectful of me and he always did what I asked him to on the first time. He also would call out suggested punishments when I was disciplining another student. Many of the other students pick up on this behavior and make fun of him for it. What can I do in this situation?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I also have a few students who have these same characteristics. First I would have a conversation with the students about the calling out punishments. Make sure he knows that he needs to only worry about himself. If this continues I would use a punishment for continuing to do it. This should help him to stop calling it out, but also to show the other kids that you hold him to the same standards. I would also make sure students know that it is not ok to make fun and that the behavior that the teacher's pet is showing is the behavior they all need to be showing. I wonder if you have some sort of reward for good behavior if this would encourage more students to show this behavior and take some of the light off of the teacher's pet.

Comments: Although the student may be trying to help letting the other students see that you are holding them to the same standards may allow they others to see that they are the same as each other. Also showing the others that you expect the same type of behavior may have them changing their ideas about making fun of the student, because they are doing what you expect of your students, if a little excessive. Making sure that they understand that you, as the teacher, deal with the punishments alone should let the student see that they may be overstepping their bounds by calling out ideas for the punishments.

Comments: I sense a bit of irony for punishing and also rewarding students for such behavior.

Comments: I do not think that teacher's should encourage this behavior as you suggested. Student's should be taught to worry about themselves, not their peers.

Comments: I don't believe punishing a child for trying to help will help the situation. sitting the student down and explaining how the behavior is unacceptable is a much better approach.
