Case: Chewing Gum
Chewing gum at school is not allowed. Just recently it has started to become a major problem in the gym because the teachers are finding new gum stuck to the gym floor everyday. Each period we have between 100-150 students coming into the gym, and cannot possibly check every one to see if they have gum. What are some ways that we could better prevent students from chewing gum?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I found a good solution to the gum problem this year. When I catch a student chewing gum after I have warned them, I assign them detention. Detention for gum chewing consists of taking a flat-head screwdriver and scraping all of the old chewing gum from the bottom of the desks. After 10-15 desks, the student is disgusted and will think twice about chewing gum around me. |

Comments: I like the idea of the scrapping it off the bottom of the desk! |

Comments: It discourages students to stop chewing gum and teaches them how littering gum in the gym affects custodians who are responsible for cleaning it off the floor. |
