  Case: Motivating Students to Read
My students read silently for 10 minutes daily and then they record what they read on a reading log. I now have them read at home, but over 75 percent of the students come back to school without their reading recorded. How can I motivate students to read at home because I have explained that this is part of the reason why their reading test scores are so low.
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Make it a contest. Have rewards and different levels for those rewards. A lot of times if you go to your partners in education they will give you coupons for free stuff that you can use as a reward.

Comments: I like the contest idea. With older students it could be a coupon for a free burger (many businesses are open to working with schools on these incentives, it just takes some footwork) or maybe some phone/mP3 player time at the end of the week.

Comments: Using positive reinforcement and rewarding students for reading at home is a great idea. This will give students an incentive to spend more of their free time reading and help them establish a genuine interest and love for reading in the future.
