Case: Ice coffee
There is one student in your class who is wonderful. She does everything you ask and more. She is brilliant in class and very helpful. So most more you stop to get ice coffee and decide to bring this student some as well. She comes to your class early in the morning and you think most students don't recognize the frozen treat. Well one day your principal comes to speak to you about a complaint another parent complained that you were showing favoritism to one student in the class. What should be the consequences for the teacher, if any?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I'm torn on this one. I believe in rewarding good behavior but the teacher should reward other students who do the right thing also. The part that I do not agree with is that it is secretive about it. A reward should not be rubbed in other students' faces but it should not be hidden. I believe the teacher needs to stop ASAP and rethink her reward system. |

Comments: I agree with this solution. This is exactly what I would do in this case. Rethinking her reward system is an excellent solution. Clearly, this child cannot be the only good or excelling student in her class. |

Comments: I had a teacher who, at the end of the year, took a few students out for pizza because they had been helpers throughout the year. It wasn't a secret, she announced it to the class and thanked the students. At the beginning of the year she simply told the class that students who wanted to help out, could. It was open to everyone, and those who stepped up were rewarded. The consequences for the teacher should simply be a chat with the principal, and the teacher should refrain from showing favoritism. |

Comments: I like solution because it's not punish the idea of rewards for doing good and for going above and beyond, although the reward do you need to be rethought, into something that is more applicable to more students than just one |

Comments: This is good! Students should be rewarded because of success, not just favoritism. |
