  Case: Changing stories
After chastising the student for deliberate disobedience and insubordination during class, somehow you know a different story would work its way home. Sure enough! That very same afternoon the boy's father, called the school to demand an immediate conference.
How do you deal with this situation?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would make sure an administrator is present at the conference, after very carefully documenting incidents with that particular student. I would ask the father to reiterate the story the student went home with, and then tell him what actually happened. I would provide the documentation supporting your claims and discuss the possibility of a behavior contract. I would also not chastise the student in front of the class, but in the hallway in the presence of another teacher or an administrator. I would also notify the parent when the student acts inappropriately before the student gets home with a difference version of the story.

Comments: I think that it would be good to have a witness such as another teacher or administrator when talking with the student who is being disobedient.

Comments: Overall there were multiple aspects of this response I found to be effective. I agree that it would be best to not chastise the student in front of the class but rather more privately. Additionally I feel it would be incredibly beneficial to both document and communicate issues as they occur to avoid time for misinformation to be told.
