Case: Testing Candy
Ok if a student is not a good test taker like can't focus is it ok to allow that student to chew gum or suck on a piece of candy to help? Is that giving special attention to one student or should you give it to all the students in the class?

I offer peppermint to all of my students during testing. This removes any "special treatment" and does not require me giving candy to everyone at the same time. |

| Comments: I think peppermint would be better than most other candy like gum, it wont end up underneath the desk or sticking to the floor. I do agree to give everyone peppermint so no one gets special treatment. I would do this if I were in this situation. |

| Comments: Great idea! When I was in elementary school my teacher always gave students peppermints to the class during standardized testing. It seemed to work very well. |

| Comments: I know some people who don't allow gum in their classrooms but I don't mind it and feel that it helps me sometimes. As long you don't abuse the rule of allowing of gum then I don't see anything wrong with this solution. |

| Comments: As a health, fitness, and nutrition enthusiast I wish healthy snack time would be encouraged and implemented in all schools at all grade levels. A bowl of cereal in the morning, nutritionally empty cafeteria foods offered like pizza and french fries alleviate hunger, but are not nutrient rich which can affect mental function and academic performance. If I were allowed, I'd bring snacks like segmented bananas or a strawberry each instead of candy. |
