Take it out?
A teacher I just interviewed has a nose piercing, and her eyebrow pierced. She is one of the most beautiful women I've ever met, and she is highly qualified. I am afraid parents won't like this teacher because of this situation. Should she take them out?

I would not judge her based on the piercings, I know a teacher who has one facial piercing, multiple ear piercings, and visible tattoos. Her students parents love her, they seem to look past these things. If you feels your students parents may judge her, I would mention that to her and leave it up to her whether to remove the piercings or not.

I agree. This is a great solution. Parents and students need to learn not to judge her. if she is qualified, what do piercings matter?

I agree with you. Things are changing and people are learning not to judge as much.

This is a great idea. Piercings should not hinder the decision if she is qualified or not.

This is a difficult situation. With the way society is nowadays people have become more open to piercings. However for teachers parents don't want their children around people that look like that unfortunately.

As the other people have mentioned that most parents will look past the piercings and love the teacher for who she is. If any parents really do have an issue with the piercings that the teacher has, they will contact her and ask her about it.

I dont believe looks should stop her from being an effective teacher. If she is highly qualified then the parents should see that in their children's progress and accept this new teacher. Also, the times are changing and this tends to be okay with a majority of schools and people.

I understand the concern in this case, but I think it could be helpful for students to have a teacher with a piercing. Somehow, students may perceive the student as more down-to-earth, or less stressful. It could help the student feel relaxed around someone that may not be deem as "traditional looking" in the classroom.

I would hire the teacher, as she is not afraid of going to an interview with piercings. She will likely have answers for questioning parents who question her appearance. As long as her qualifications check out, I do not see a reason not to hire the teacher.

I wouldn't judge her based on her piercings. I think that is a discussion to have with her and see if the district/school has any policies dealing with facial piercing.

During this day and age, I do not think piercings nor tattoos should affect one's career choice. If this teacher is highly qualified and can keep children engaged while teaching, why would her piercings matter at all?

I never think a person should be judged based on the piercing unless they cause a distraction in the classroom. I have had a nose piercing for almost 7 years and in my experience in the classroom, students do not pay much attention to it. In my opinion, piercing do not effect someone's ability to work with students.

I do not think it is appropriate to ask her to take it out. Someone should not be judged due to their physical appearance.

I would take them out because I know your odds go up when it comes to getting hired. However if you would like to wear nose and eyebrow piercings once you start working wear them so they can at least tell you its not allowed, or they will know who they are hiring.

I do not think this is the best solution. Her piercings allow her to accept herself. If she is qualified, do not judge a book by its cover.
