It is best for teacher to stay neutral when discussing the election, as teacher bias can alienate some students and skew the teacher's own lesson. A good idea is to tackle issues that are found from both the DNC and the GOP. The teacher could also maybe get coworkers with various opinions to review the lesson plan.

Do not show any sort of political favor over a candidate, just teach the appropriate and ethical way.
