Why? If you are asked this question in a job interview for a teaching position: What are some things you should avoid when responding to this question? What might be some important points to stress that would get the interviewer's attention? Emphasize that it can be helpful for co-workers, especially teachers, to talk about past experiences. As a teacher, it is not a priority to make "friends" at work, our main focus should be the students. This being said, it is important to ask opinions when needed or other ideas about what lesson is being taught. Stress Teamwork.. This is a red flag for employers and they might take it to mean that you are a trouble maker or have problems getting along with others, and quite frankly, why would anyone hire someone who will only cause problems in the workplace. This being said you must also be honest, don't lie and say that you've never had a problem if you have, just focus on what you learned rather than describing what has happened. For instance, you could say... Based on past experiences in the work place I can say that maintaining professionalism in the work place is very important to me. Everyone should learn to be respectful of each other and we should go out of our way to make the work place a welcoming place for everyone, however, we must remember that we are here to work and teach students, not to make friends. I believe that having this mindset keeps the workplace professional for everyone. However, as a teacher you must be professional at all times. This is easier said, then done. The kind of colleagues that will be most difficult to work with are those that do not adhere to professional conduct. Behaviors such as participating or initiating trashy gossip about students, students' parents, and other colleagues. Other behaviors such as co workers that are not passionate about their work, don't care of the welfare of their students, display prejudice acts towards other. Colleagues that I would find it difficult to work with are colleagues that are narrow-minded and aren't willing to collaborate. I would explain by stating that this type of behavior comes across as selfish and does not indicate that this type of colleague has the best interests of the students in mind. In education, being able to collaborate with any type of person is very important and that is why it would be easier to work with a colleague that has the common goal of the students best interests and is willing to collaborate and have mature conversations with other teachers to ensure that the needs of the students are being met. I would avoid stating any particular instances of conflict in the past. I think the purpose for this question is more so to see what you as the interviewer value and to assess how you would interact with current staff members.
