Oh the politics
Working in my church as a teacher was a dream come true. I love my church and enjoyed the people who go there. Our school got a new director. I had suspension of physical abuse to a child in my classroom so I brought it her attention. She told me to keep documentation on the situation and take pictures. I did. Then as things continued the mother came to me and told me her husband was hot tempter. I brought this to the directors attention. She told me that the parents went to the church and were very involved and I was wrong. She told me if I pursue it I would end up fired...

If a director is going to ignore the abuse, then call the abuse hotline. I would risk being fired to save a child's life. Do not ignore the situation. Keep documenting it and report it. Also, report the director, so this doesn't happen again.

This is a good idea! I completely agree. It is the priority of teachers and adults to report suspicions even if they turn out to be false.

This is exactly right. We as educators, our job is to protect these children, even from their parents sometimes.

keep documenting the abuse and report it to DCFS or an abuse hotline. Also report the director for negligence.

Document everything you possibly can and report it to the abuse hotline. Regardless if they parents are highly invovled with the church or not, the child's safety always comes first.

You have the legal obligation to report child abuse. If your job is threatened by that, you should go above their head. If she fires you for this, seems like you should hire a lawyer. I'm sure they wouldn't want a lawsuit from that. Do what is legally and morally right. If you teacher for a church, then you obviously have religious beliefs. Talk to the pastor of the church for guidance, but, do the right thing and get help for the child.

As others have stated, you should definitely document as much of the situation as you can. I would report the incident to DCFS or an abuse hotline. I would also look into reporting your director, as she is not upholding her obligation to report suspicions of abuse, and is putting the child in danger as a result.

You need to report this immediately to the department of children and families. As a future teacher you have a responsibility to report all cases of abuse even if they are just a suspension. the church can not fire you for reporting a case of abuse because if something were to happen to the child and they would die you would be legally responsible for that death because you did not report the abuse when you noticed it. It is a tough situation to be in but as a teacher you are a mandatory reporter of abuse no matter who the parents are. Also i agree you need to report the church director for negligence.
